What are Packs of Dignity?
Packs of Dignity (PoD) are practical care packs prepared by V-Aid volunteers and distributed through trusted partner organisations to support people experiencing hardship, crisis or major life changes.
Each pack contains essential toiletries and personal care items that help restore dignity, improve wellbeing and provide practical support to people who may otherwise go without life’s everyday essentials.
Working closely with Probation Services, Approved Premises, women’s support organisations, homelessness charities, veterans’ organisations and other community partners, our Packs of Dignity reach people when they need them most.
Why They Matter
A Pack of Dignity provides far more than toiletries.
For someone experiencing homelessness, leaving prison, escaping domestic abuse or rebuilding their life after a difficult period, access to basic personal care items can restore confidence, improve self-esteem and help them move forward with dignity.
Every pack is distributed free of charge through trusted partner organisations, ensuring practical support reaches the people who need it most.
Each pack also represents compassion, kindness and the knowledge that somebody cares.
How It Works
Every Pack of Dignity is prepared during supervised volunteer sessions using donated and purchased toiletries and essential personal care items.
Volunteers carefully sort, check and pack each item to ensure every recipient receives a practical, high-quality pack that meets their immediate needs.
Rather than distributing packs directly, V-Aid works through trusted organisations including Probation Services, Approved Premises, women’s support organisations, veterans’ charities, homelessness services and other community partners. This approach ensures every pack reaches someone who has been identified as genuinely needing support.
By working in partnership with frontline organisations, we can respond quickly, efficiently and with dignity, helping people at some of the most challenging times in their lives.
What's Inside a Pack?
Every Pack of Dignity is tailored to meet the needs of the receiving organisation and the individuals they support. While contents may vary, packs typically include a range of everyday essentials that many people take for granted.
Items may include:
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Soap or shower gel
- Deodorant
- Shaving products
- Feminine hygiene products
- Hairbrush or comb
- Towels and flannels
- Moisturiser and other personal care items
- Additional everyday essentials where appropriate
Packs can be prepared for men, women and young people, allowing our partner organisations to provide practical support that reflects each person’s individual circumstances.
More Than a Pack
A Pack of Dignity represents far more than the items it contains.
For someone receiving one, it can be a reminder that they have not been forgotten and that their wellbeing matters. Something as simple as having the basic essentials to wash, shave or care for themselves can restore confidence and provide a sense of normality during difficult times.
For the volunteers who prepare each pack, it is an opportunity to make a genuine difference within their community while developing practical skills, confidence and a renewed sense of purpose.
Every Pack of Dignity reflects V-Aid’s belief that practical acts of kindness can help rebuild lives—supporting not only immediate needs, but also hope, dignity and the opportunity for a brighter future.
Every Pack of Dignity prepared by our volunteers helps restore dignity, provide practical support and bring hope to someone when they need it most. Together, we are helping build stronger individuals, stronger communities and brighter futures.
Our Impact
The Packs of Dignity Programme is about far more than providing essential toiletries.
Every pack prepared represents compassion in action—helping someone feel valued, respected and supported during a difficult period in their life.
By working alongside Probation Services and trusted community partners, we ensure practical support reaches people facing homelessness, domestic abuse, financial hardship, release from prison, mental health challenges and other vulnerable circumstances.
The programme also provides meaningful volunteering opportunities, bringing people together to make a genuine difference within their communities while developing practical skills, confidence and a shared sense of purpose.
Through thousands of donated and carefully prepared essential items, V-Aid is helping restore dignity, build confidence and remind people that they are not facing life’s challenges alone.
